High Tide

                 [Jhane]

I used to swim in your water with ease.
You were a spiritual bath that I’d close my eyes and relish in.
But now the tide is high.
The currents are forceful and unkind.
I try to bathe in you and the waters spit me out
before I even get to settle in.
It’s honestly smothering.
I just don’t enjoy swimming anymore.
It feels too much like drowning.
