First Sunday in October
[Miro]
gray mist shrouds morning
old coat just dry cleaned shrouds shoulders
sharp air nips at ankles, throat
bouts of wind play tug of war with umbrella
quick strides down Prince Street
lead the way to hot milk and coffee
a long gaze exchanged with a stranger on the way
each compelled to look back on the other as they pass
is warmth in October’s storm
